Alabama — Sentencing Standards (worksheets effective October 1, 2024)

Alabama’s Sentencing Standards use two worksheets for the most serious offense being sentenced: a Prison In/Out worksheet (prison or not) and a Sentence Length worksheet (how long). They cover the drug, property and violent offenses listed below. Drug and most property offenses use presumptive standards (the judge must follow them unless there are stated reasons); violent offenses and burglary use voluntary standards.

Choose the most serious offense being sentenced. Offenses not on this list are not covered by Alabama’s worksheets; they are sentenced under the general felony ranges.

How the points were added up
Checked on 25 October 2026 against the Alabama Sentencing Commission’s Sentencing Standards Manual 2024 and the worksheets and sentence length tables effective October 1, 2024: every point value on the five sets of worksheets, every row of the seven sentence length tables, and each offense’s statute and felony class. Sentence enhancements, including the Habitual Felony Offender Act, are already built into the tables and are not added on top. Not included: offenses outside the worksheets, several current offenses at once, departures for aggravating or mitigating factors, and the rules on how a split sentence is served (Ala. Code § 15-18-8). This is an educational estimate, not legal advice.
