Estimate the sentencing range for a felony in your state. Choose the state where the case is.
Each calculator uses that state’s official sentencing grid, checked against the statute. States we have not finished checking are marked “coming soon”.
Michigan uses a separate grid for each felony severity class (M2 for 2nd-degree murder, then A
through H) — not one shared grid. The guidelines have been advisory, not mandatory, since a
2015 Michigan Supreme Court decision, but courts still calculate and generally follow them. This
tool covers 4 of the 9 classes so far (A, D, F, G).
Pick it from the list below if you see it. This fills in the Felony Class for you automatically.
Michigan groups felonies into classes based on how serious they are — Class A is the most serious, with lower letters getting progressively less severe. If you picked your offense above, this is already set for you. If not, here's roughly what each class covers:
Class A — the most serious crimes: murder-adjacent offenses, armed robbery, 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct. Maximum: life in prison.
Class B — serious violent crimes: home invasion 1st degree, assaults/offenses that caused a death. Maximum: 20 years.
Class D — mid-level offenses: larger-scale theft or property crimes, some serious assault-related offenses. Maximum: 10 years.
Class F — lower-level offenses: some assault-related and property crimes, official misconduct. Maximum: 4 years.
Class G — the least serious felonies covered here: resisting arrest, smaller-scale theft, failing to register. Maximum: 2 years.
This number is based on the specific facts of your offense — things like whether a weapon was used, whether anyone was injured, how many victims there were. Most people won't know this off the top of their head — that's normal.
Figuring Out Your OV Level
Go through the categories below and select whichever description best matches what happened in your case. Not every category will apply — leave those at "0 points." We'll add everything up and set your OV Level automatically.
This number is based on your past convictions. Most people won't know this off the top of their head either.
Figuring Out Your PRV Level
Go through the categories below and select whichever describes your record. We'll add everything up and set your PRV Level automatically.

Sentencing Grid (Class )
Numbers are the recommended MINIMUM sentence range in months. The maximum sentence is set separately by the statute defining your specific offense, not by this grid.
Checked on 25 October 2026 against the Michigan Compiled Laws on the Michigan Legislature website (complete through PA 114 of 2026): all nine grids (MCL 777.61–777.69, 258 boxes) match; offense classes, categories and maximums come from the official offense lists (MCL 777.11–777.19); offense and prior record variable points match MCL 777.31–777.57; the habitual offender increase follows MCL 777.21(3). The guidelines give the minimum sentence and are advisory (People v. Lockridge, 2015). Not included: first-degree murder and other mandatory life offenses, and which offense variables apply to each offense category (MCL 777.22). This is an educational estimate, not legal advice.
