Each calculator uses that state’s official sentencing grid, checked against the statute. States we have not finished checking are marked “coming soon”.

North Carolina — Structured Sentencing (N.C.G.S. § 15A-1340.14, .17)

Note: The chart gives a range for the minimum prison term. The judge picks the minimum from the range; the maximum term then follows from the statute.

Pick it from the list below if you see it. This fills in the Felony Class for you automatically.

Class A (life/death) isn't included here since it doesn't use this grid. B1 is most serious of the rest; I is least serious.

This is based on points from your past convictions. Most people won't know this off the top of their head — that's normal.

Sentencing Chart (Presumptive Range, Minimum Months)

North Carolina's chart gives a range of possible MINIMUM terms; the maximum is calculated automatically from whichever minimum is chosen. Letters: C = community, I = intermediate, A = active/prison.

Chart checked on 25 October 2026 against N.C.G.S. § 15A-1340.17 (N.C. General Assembly, as amended through 2013): all 216 chart values match, and the maximum-term tables match for every minimum. Prior record points and levels follow N.C.G.S. § 15A-1340.14. Each offense in the list was checked against the penalty wording of its statute. Not included: Class A (first-degree murder), habitual felon rules, drug trafficking mandatory minimums, and how out-of-state convictions are classified.
