Utah — Adult Sentencing Guidelines 2026, Form 1 (General Matrix)

Utah’s guidelines suggest whether a felony sentence should be probation, jail as a condition of probation, or prison, and the typical time served if the person goes to prison. Utah prison terms are indeterminate: the Board of Pardons and Parole decides the actual release date.

Pick it from the list if you see it. This fills in the felony degree and the crime category. If it is not listed, choose the category below.

“Person” offenses involve injury or threats to people; “other” covers property, fraud, most drug sales and public-order crimes; “possession” means drug possession only.

This comes from a points score for past convictions. Most people won’t know it — that’s normal.

Form 1 — General Matrix (typical months in prison; shading shows the suggested sentence)

Imprisonment   Jail as a condition of probation   Presumptive probation

Matrix checked on 25 October 2026 against Form 1 of the 2026 Utah Adult Sentencing, Release and Supervision Guidelines (Utah Sentencing Commission, effective May 6, 2026): all 40 boxes match, including the suggested sentence shading. Crime categories follow Addendum B; felony degrees and statutory ranges follow the Utah Code (Utah Code § 76-3-203). Not included: murder and death offenses, sex offenses, DUI injury or death, large financial losses, and mandatory minimum terms (each has its own form); aggravating and mitigating factors; and consecutive or concurrent sentences.
